Most people look at betas as an early access, expecting a demo-like environment, which is hardly the case. Although if you look at something like minecraft (which just recently came out of beta) and Tribes:Ascend whom sale beta access to a pretty well polished game still in active development, it does taint what other devs do.

I used to be able to get into beta testing in general. Finding and reporting bugs. I used to do this for some goldsrc mods. I suppose the general 'try to be helpful' aspect of a beta is lost on folks nowadays?

So you had a bad experience with the BF3 beta? I think it was a lot better than the alpha. Beta's aren't ideally made as demos, they are put out there for testing. Normally they are older builds they've had more success in house with, that's why they release to more masses to test with.

Those are all brands, but SHOUTcasting/shoutcasting is in the same situation because producers no longer use Winamp to broadcast their live games over—there are other services, thus shoutcasting is a generalized term now and the brand is pretty far-fetched from the act of simply streaming audio.

Alright, I'll start dropping the cap S. I don't think it was ever a reason for it being there but it just snuck into our vocabulary. All stylized words I can think of are indeed brands; mIRC, SHOUTcast, WinRAR, foobar2000 etc.

FPS games are still popular to make, there was/will be BioShock, Mass Effect, Max Payne, Call of Duty, Rage, Deus Ex, Duke Nukem, Bulletstorm, Killzone, Fallout, Splinter Cell, Ghost Recon, Battlefield, Just Cause, Brink, Left 4 Dead and Borderlands to name a few. With every new game there is a small chance the developers will cater it towards the eSports crowd, we just have to convince them before they get too far in the development process and make it something else.
