Here’s what I learned from CheckPoint S3E21.

  • Wasn’t Titanfall supposed to not see a PS4 release by design? Oh well. Graham will surely give us a reason to fear that it never will soon enough.
  • Whoa, Kathleen is particularly hyper this episode.
  • Jonathan Ross being hired by MSFT’s UK division as some sort of executive producer sure sounds like a good deal for the Brits and other Euro-folks, but I share Graham’s pessimism of the hiring. I know he’s a funny guy, but that doesn’t really translate into being a great inspiration for anything, much less video games.
  • The Command & Conquer cancellation. The end of a great IP.
  • Angry Birds: Star Wars on the PS4 or Xbox One for 40 USD? A new low.
  • Runescape developers JAGEX copies and implements a core aspect of EVE Online and finds rampant success in decimating the pirate gold community. Excellent.
  • EA promised that Titanfall would be MSFT-console exclusive thanks to publishing rights or something dumb where money was exchanged in order to reach an agreement screwing prospective PlayStation 4 owners.
  • Fill in that scene, Graham.
  • Sony playing it smart in some alternate business universe making some of their next generation games and accessories available before the actual console is officially launched. Anything new, here? NOPE.

Here’s what I learned from CheckPoint S3E16.

  • Hunting ghosts sounds cool for new games. I just hope Jaffe hasn’t jumped off the deep end.
  • I had a similar experience in GTA V to what Graham acts out. After completing the plot missions and finishing the story, I suppose that the game is kind of over until we get the expansion DLCs that make the game’s story replayable, like the previous game in the series.
  • I would have to think that telling users to do something at their own risk is the worst warning that could be possibly be issued. Xbox One users will start complaining that their vertically positioned units will fail within two months of release–I’m calling it now.
  • A third title for Final Fantasy XIII not making sense? #standard
  • A legitimate NGO has mapped the British Isles in Minecraft sporting a 3.6 GB file size for the world. Pretty intense.
  • The 1313 engine being repurposed from gaming production to movie production is a bit of a bummer but not completely unexpected, considering Disney’s penchant for direct-to-home sales for budget IPs. Still bummed that Star Wars 1313 has been completely shelved, though.
  • A new company to make games for hunting ghosts and so on? Why bother?
  • 16 million dimes is a lot of dimes.
  • Blackberry actually had a games initiative?

Here’s what I learned from CheckPoint S3E13.

  • Graham starting out with the sad jokes. I miss Megaman.
  • PAX pox strikes again.
  • XCOM: Enemy Within is too big of an expansion for it to be designated a DLC add-on, requiring that the upcoming expansion be sold in retail for the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. In other news, I actually need to sit down and play out all of the content that came with the original XCOM: Enemy Unknown product first.
  • Get a free indie game if no one else is online? I guess that’s cool.
  • The Xbox One supports eight controllers simultaneously. Talk about overkill.
  • Horror games. PASS.
  • Oh wait, they’re still on the horror games jabs. SKIPPING.
  • The creator of the Megaman series is Kickstarting a Megaman knock off. It’s funded and it’s going to be basically Megaman. Yes, please.
  • The ‘scared of gangsters’ bit at the end has already been done, amirite? That being said, I still can’t wait for this game.
