I’m headed towards the West Coast, again.

Before a client media tour that I participated in almost two years ago, I hadn’t been west of the Appalachian mountain range in my life. Our group traveled up and down that range until it was time to go west. And pretty much directly west. From Orlando, the tour would head directly in the direction of Los Angeles. Traveling through New Orléans and Texas, seeing where JFK was shot, crossing the deserts of New Mexico and Arizona, breaking down along they way was the experience of a lifetime.

This time, there will be much less traveling around and it won’t end with a hotel in the zip code 90210.

I’m flying out to SNA for MLG Spring Championship 2012 and the chance to work with (in person) the ESFI staff. I haven’t been able to write articles as consistently as I’d like to lately, but I hope that this trip will mark a turning point in the ability that I’d be able to contribute in the future.

If you’re going to be in Anaheim for the event, message me via Twitter and let’s hang out over some drinks. I don’t get out of my common environment very often and as far as I’m concerned, any sort of air travel is a special occasion. And special occasions always involve drinks afterwards.

The acceptance of your peers.

For as many strides that ESFI has made in the recent weeks, it seems like it can’t catch a break with the critical inner circle of esports personalities, namely InControl on last evening’s State of the Game podcast.

The lack of faith and abundance of skepticism that the established SC2 personalities have is well-deserved—I won’t deny them that. Anyone that claims to be identifying issues or reporting developments in their scene is creeping on their turf and it stands to reason that they could potentially lose the position of relevance with regards to news in the community should a site like ESFI begin to release the content that they have even been asking the community to provide for the sake of itself.

I’m not speaking for ESFI corporately, but I do think I can opine that I believe the mission of ESFI is to report what is happening within the scenes we can investigate with a fair and even-handed approach to coverage. I am not affiliated with any league organization or public team and I’ve never strived to be one of the folks who are. It’d be nice to have that sort of access all of the time and to get on the inside of some circles, but I don’t think that’s what my current goal is. I just want to be able to bring either news that lacks bias (in as much as it is possible) and share it with the community.

I’m sure there are those out there who just want to rock the boat, but that’s not really what I’m into, granted the situation might arise in which rocking the boat might be inevitable, but hopefully the community would be ready for that sort of turbulence if it came down to publishing an exposé written by ESFI—talk about a rock and a hard place.

I suppose it’d be nice if the community could just see the effort as what it is and instead of just bracing for the worst. There are some who are all for what we’re doing, but I just hope the skeptical amongst the remainder can limit their negativity for what we’re trying to accomplish.

A little delay with the next column.

Well, I had been planning to publish a series of columns to ESFI on Mondays (ideally just after business hours conclude on Monday afternoon) but it seems that its not to be this week as we begin to roll out some preview coverage for the upcoming MLG Providence event.

The delay caused me to be a bit anxious as I had previously thought it was just taking too long in the editing process, which instead of assuming that there was too much work to be done and I simply got sidelined I decided to freak out that my article must’ve been total crap and being rewritten or rejected.

In truth, it’s been delayed because of the massive amount of content that ESFI is about ready to publish in advance of MLG Providence this weekend. There’s a considerable increase in editorial content as well as informative preview articles and interviews being published according to the calendar that I have access to and you don’t, so keep an eye out for my column to be released either today or tomorrow and the rest of the awesome content waiting to be unleashed on the Internet over at ESFIworld.com.

Therefore, I give you permission to mock me due to my insecurity. Go on.
